However, if you are looking for a more simplified or clarified version of the text, here it is: Just like Washington, Brasilia, or Canberra, Ankara is the capital of Turkey, but it's not the most well-known city in the country. Visitors often find Ankara's modern vibe surprising, especially if they're coming from the more rural areas. While it's not as popular with tourists as Istanbul, Ankara offers a selection of noteworthy attractions and some of the best museums around. It's a key transportation center for those traveling to the eastern and southern parts of Turkey and hosts all the foreign embassies. The main thoroughfare in Ankara is Atatürk Boulevard, which runs north to south and leads to ULUS, the historic part of the city. In the vicinity of the citadel's southern end, which towers over the old town, is the remarkable Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. This museum is a must-see, as it's among the finest in Turkey and justifies a trip to Ankara on its own. The museum is housed in a beautifully restored Ottoman caravanserai and a covered market, showcasing a vast array of artifacts that chronicle the history of the Anatolian region from its earliest days. While you're in the area, take a walk through the bazaar, a mini-city within the citadel walls, and visit the Alâedin Mosque, Ankara's oldest. Before you leave Ankara, make sure to see Anit Kabur, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey. The monument's grand scale and the collection of Atatürk's personal belongings inside the museum underscore the deep respect Turkey has for this national hero. The site is set within a spacious park. Other historical sites in Ankara include the Temple of Augustus, which dates back to 25 B.C. and was built on top of even older places of worship. It was later turned into a Byzantine church. Also nearby are the Haci Bayram Mosque, the Ethnography Museum, and the old Parliament building. Ankara boasts a vibrant social life, with excellent dining options, bustling nightclubs, art galleries, and museums, as well as shops specializing in antiques. With a rich history that stretches back to Roman times, the capital city is the perfect spot for dining in style, enjoying the nightlife, appreciating art, and indulging in a bit of history.
